How to Make the World’s Best Homemade Tzatziki Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon vinegar (white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1-2 cloves organic garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons organic lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups whole Greek yogurt, strained with cheesecloth if you have time
  • 1/2 organic English cucumber, diced very small and excess water rung out
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and fresh pepper to taste
Optional additions:
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare cucumber: Peel the cucumber and dice it very small or pulse in a small food processor. Strain the excess liquid using a paper towel.
  2. Combine wet ingredients: In a bowl, combine olive oil, vinegar, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Add yogurt: Using a whisk, blend in the yogurt.
  4. Add cucumber and dill: Add the diced cucumber and chopped dill.
  5. Chill: Chill for at least two hours before serving.

Optional additions:

  • For extra flavor: Add chopped fresh mint, crumbled feta cheese, or red pepper flakes.
  • For a thicker texture: Use Greek yogurt that has been strained for an extended period.
  • For a spicier kick: Increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
