Best Smash Tacos

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium flour tortillas
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Montreal steak spice
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion, divided into 4 equal parts
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil, plus more as needed (use ½ tablespoon at a time for cooking tacos)
  • 1 cup lettuce leaves, sliced (for serving)
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro (for garnish)

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • ½ tablespoon sriracha
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped pickles

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine all sauce ingredients. Set aside.

  2. Prepare the Meat: In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with Montreal steak spice. Mix thoroughly (using gloves if preferred) and divide into 4 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a thin patty.

  3. Assemble the Tacos: Place one patty onto each tortilla. Sprinkle each with a portion of chopped onion and season with salt to taste.

  4. Cook the Tacos: Heat ½ tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Once hot, place a tortilla (meat side down) into the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the meat is cooked through. Flip the tortilla, sprinkle with grated cheese, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the tortilla turns golden and the cheese melts.

  5. Final Assembly: Transfer the cooked taco onto a cutting board. Top with sliced lettuce, chopped cilantro, and drizzle with the prepared sauce. Fold the taco in half, slice if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes:

  • You can use any ground meat of your choice such as chicken or turkey for a lighter option.
  • If you don't have Montreal Steak Spice, taco seasoning can be used as a substitute.
  • Feel free to experiment with different cheeses such as Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend.
  • Customize your toppings with options like pico de gallo, guacamole, sliced avocado, or diced tomatoes according to your preference.

Enjoy your delicious Smash Tacos!
