Apple Crisp

Ingredients

For the Topping:

  • ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅔ cup old-fashioned oats
  • ⅔ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Apples:

  • 6 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples
  • 3 tablespoons apple juice (or orange juice)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For Serving:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate or a 9×9 square baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Topping:

    • In a bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in melted butter until well mixed. Place the topping mixture in the refrigerator while you prepare the filling.
  3. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a large bowl, mix apples, apple juice, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Gently stir until the apples are well coated.
  4. Assemble the Crisp:

    • Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Crumble the topping mixture over the apples, pressing some of it together to form clumps.
  5. Bake:

    • Cover the baking dish loosely with a piece of foil sprayed with nonstick spray. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender with bubbling juices around the edges.
  6. Serve:

    • Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
