Ingredients
For the Topping:
- ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
- ⅔ cup old-fashioned oats
- ⅔ cup light brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Apples:
- 6 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples
- 3 tablespoons apple juice (or orange juice)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For Serving:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Caramel sauce
Instructions
Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate or a 9×9 square baking dish.
Prepare the Topping:
- In a bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in melted butter until well mixed. Place the topping mixture in the refrigerator while you prepare the filling.
Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, mix apples, apple juice, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Gently stir until the apples are well coated.
Assemble the Crisp:
- Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Crumble the topping mixture over the apples, pressing some of it together to form clumps.
Bake:
- Cover the baking dish loosely with a piece of foil sprayed with nonstick spray. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender with bubbling juices around the edges.
Serve:
- Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
