Ingredients:
Ground Beef Mixture:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- Salt/pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
Sauce:
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp packed brown sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp hot sauce
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
Garnishes:
- Green onions
- Toasted sesame seeds
- Red pepper flakes
For Serving:
- Thinly sliced cucumbers
- Julienned carrots
- 3 cups cooked rice
Instructions:
Prepare the Sauce:
- Combine beef broth with cornstarch until well mixed.
- Ensure the broth is cool to prevent activating the cornstarch prematurely.
- Mix in soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, hot sauce, sesame oil, and ground ginger. Store in a cool place.
Cook the Beef:
- Season ground beef with salt and pepper.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook and crumble for 3 minutes.
- Add onions and garlic. Sauté until beef is cooked through (5-6 minutes). Drain any grease.
Combine and Thicken:
- Add the prepared sauce to the skillet. Bring to a boil, then let it continue to boil, thicken, and reduce for 3 minutes, stirring periodically.
Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from heat. Garnish with green onions, toasted sesame seeds, and red pepper flakes.
- Serve over rice, cauliflower rice, or in lettuce wraps.
