Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
- 500g ground pork
- 500g ground beef
- 40g breadcrumbs
- ½ onion, finely grated
- 125ml beef stock or milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
For the Meatball Sauce:
- 1 tbsp butter or vegetable oil
- ½ onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 250ml beef stock
- 250ml single cream or soy single cream (for dairy-free)
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Make the Meatballs:
- In a large bowl, combine ground pork, ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, grated onion, egg, allspice, black pepper, salt, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs.
- Brown the meatballs in a pan with vegetable oil over high heat until browned but not cooked through.
Make the Meatball Sauce:
- In the same pan, melt butter or oil and sauté the chopped onion until softened.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it becomes a paste.
- Gradually add beef stock, whisking to avoid lumps.
- Stir in single cream or soy single cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
- Add the browned meatballs to the sauce, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through.
Serve:
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Serve the meatballs in the sauce over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.
