  • 500g ground beef
  • 40g breadcrumbs
  • ½ onion, finely grated
  • 125ml beef stock or milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

For the Meatball Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp butter or vegetable oil
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 250ml beef stock
  • 250ml single cream or soy single cream (for dairy-free)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Make the Meatballs:

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground pork, ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, grated onion, egg, allspice, black pepper, salt, and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs.
  3. Brown the meatballs in a pan with vegetable oil over high heat until browned but not cooked through.

Make the Meatball Sauce:

  1. In the same pan, melt butter or oil and sauté the chopped onion until softened.
  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it becomes a paste.
  3. Gradually add beef stock, whisking to avoid lumps.
  4. Stir in single cream or soy single cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
  5. Add the browned meatballs to the sauce, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Serve:

  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Serve the meatballs in the sauce over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Enjoy your delicious homemade meatballs!
