How To Make Dinosaur Cookies for a Dinosaur Party

Ingredients:

For the Cookies:

  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

For the Royal Icing:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-5 teaspoons milk
  • Green and brown gel food coloring

Instructions:

Make the Cookie Dough:

  1. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add wet ingredients: Beat in egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
  4. Mix wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Chill dough: Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.

Roll Out and Cut Cookies:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out dough: Roll out chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  3. Cut out shapes: Use dinosaur cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  4. Bake cookies: Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Royal Icing:

  1. Combine ingredients: In a bowl, combine powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Beat until smooth and spreadable.
  2. Color icing: Divide icing into two bowls. Color one bowl green and the other brown using gel food coloring.

Decorate Cookies:

  1. Pipe icing: Transfer icing to piping bags fitted with small round tips.
  2. Outline and fill: Pipe an outline around each dinosaur cookie. Fill in the center with icing.
  3. Add details: Use a toothpick to add details like eyes, spots, and stripes.

Let cookies dry completely before storing.

Tips:

  • For a more flavorful cookie, add a pinch of salt to the dough.
  • To prevent the cookies from spreading too much, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • For a stronger flavor, use high-quality vanilla extract.

Enjoy your adorable Dinosaur Cookies!
