Ingredients:
- 1/2 pound ground sirloin
- 2 tablespoons minced onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons milk or half and half
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/3 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
- 48 saltine crackers
- 6 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into 24 thin slices
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce for serving, or as needed
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground sirloin, onion, garlic, milk, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and egg. Mix well.
- Stir in the breadcrumbs until well combined.
- Spread the meat mixture in a thin layer on top of 24 of the saltine crackers.
- Top each cracker with a slice of mozzarella cheese and another saltine cracker.
- Place the crackers on a baking sheet and brush the tops evenly with olive oil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the meat is golden brown around the edges and cooked through and the cheese is melted.
- Serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
Tips:
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
- If you don't have saltine crackers, you can use any type of cracker you like.
- You can also use shredded mozzarella cheese instead of sliced cheese.
- To make sure the crackers don't stick to the baking sheet, line it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Enjoy!
