Halloween Sweet and Sour Chicken 'Bat' Wings


Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds whole chicken wings
For the Sweet and Sour Barbecue Sauce:
  • ¾ cup pineapple juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black food coloring
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice or apple cider vinegar
Optional additions:
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a rack on top. Spray the rack with non-stick spray.
  2. Make sauce: In a bowl, combine pineapple juice, brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, black food coloring, honey, vinegar, and any optional additions. Mix well.
  3. Prepare chicken wings: Place chicken wings on the prepared rack.
  4. Bake chicken wings: Baste chicken wings with sauce. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, flip wings, and baste again. Bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  5. Serve: Serve immediately.

Optional additions:

  • For extra flavor: Add ginger, red pepper flakes, or five-spice powder to the sauce.
  • For a spicier kick: Increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
