1 egg
-
3 tbsp brown sugar
-
2 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Apple Mixture:
-
4 large apples (2 Honeycrisp, 2 Granny Smith)
-
¼ cup melted butter
-
⅓ cup brown sugar
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Cream Cheese Frosting:
-
4 oz cream cheese, softened
-
4 tbsp butter, softened
-
1½ cups powdered sugar
-
2–3 tbsp milk
-
½–1 tsp cinnamon (optional, for a spiced twist)
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prep Your Slow Cooker
Spray the inside of your slow cooker with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
2. Make the Apple Mixture
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Microwave in short bursts, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves (about 1 minute).
Peel, core, and dice the apples into 1-inch chunks. Toss them in the warm brown sugar mixture until evenly coated. Set aside.
3. Mix the Cream Cheese Frosting
In a separate bowl, whisk together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon (if using) until smooth and fluffy. Set aside for serving.
4. Prepare the Cinnamon Roll Custard
In a medium bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
5. Assemble in the Slow Cooker
-
Cut each cinnamon roll into 4 pieces.
-
Place half of the cinnamon roll pieces in the bottom of the slow cooker.
-
Spoon half of the apple mixture on top.
-
Pour the entire cream mixture evenly over everything.
-
Add the remaining cinnamon roll pieces and top with the rest of the apple mixture (including the juices).
-
Drizzle ⅓–½ cup of the prepared cream cheese frosting over the top.
6. Cook Low & Slow
Cover and cook on LOW for 2 to 2½ hours, or until the cinnamon rolls are cooked through.
👉 See notes below for slow cooker size adjustments.
7. Serve & Drizzle
Once done, drizzle with the remaining cream cheese frosting. Scoop into bowls and serve warm.
📝 Notes & Tips
-
Slow Cooker Size Matters:
If you're using a smaller crockpot (under 6 quarts), the batter will be thicker. The bottom may cook faster than the center, leading to uneven cooking or burning.
➤ To prevent this, gently fold/stir the mixture every 30–45 minutes to redistribute the dough and ensure even cooking.
➤ In small slow cookers, this recipe may take up to 4–5 hours on low. -
Don't Rush It!
Avoid turning the heat to high—it’ll likely burn the edges before the center is done. Patience = gooey perfection.
