Taco Pie

Ingredients

For the Taco Pie:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 (8-inch) flour tortilla
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup sour cream (for serving)
  • ½ cup salsa
  • ½ cup refried beans
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (for seasoning)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Beef:

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the taco seasoning mix and water to the skillet, stirring well. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

Prepare the Pie Dish:

  1. Grease a 9-inch pie dish and place the flour tortilla at the bottom.
  2. Spread a layer of refried beans over the tortilla.
  3. Add the seasoned beef mixture on top of the beans, followed by salsa and shredded cheddar cheese.

Bake:

  1. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Cool and Add Toppings:

  1. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Top with sour cream, diced tomatoes, black olives, and green onions.

Serve:

  1. Slice and serve the taco pie warm with your favorite side dishes or additional toppings.

Notes:

  • For Extra Heat: Add jalapeños, chili powder, or sriracha to the beef mixture.
  • Vegetarian Options: Substitute ground beef with black beans or a mix of vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, and corn.
  • Traditional Taco Casserole: For a more traditional taco casserole, layer the ingredients in a casserole dish instead of using a tortilla base.
